Nigeria Chief Army Staff Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru and about seven other unidentified officers have died in an air crash.

The tragedy occurred while he was on an official trip to Kaduna State on Friday evening, a top military officer at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja said.

The military plane was said to have crashed at the runway of the Kaduna Airport around 6:00 p.m. while it was raining heavily.

Multiple reports said there was no survivor in the crash.
