The newly appointment acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in Edo State, Prof. Osarieme Benson Osadolor, is yet to resume work in the institution.
Last week Tuesday, the visitor of the University, Governor Godwin Obaseki via a letter by Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie in exercise of his powers in AAU Special intervention Powers) Provision of Law 2021, announced the sack of the Governing Board of the institution and unveiled Prof. Osadolor, a former Dean of students Affairs from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) as the new acting Vice Chancellor of the school with immediate effect.
Osadolor, replaces the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo who have served his five-year tenure in office.
Obaseki who assumed full autonomy of the institution on Monday May 10, 2021, after he signed the new law that was passed by the State House of Assembly led by Mr. Marcus Onobun on the same day.
But the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the institution, Prof. Monday Igbafen, criticised the Government choice of appointment and accused the Government of.plotting to hijack the operations and functions of the Governing Board in the University which was founded in 1980.
For the past one month, students of the University have been at home as a result of the indefinite strike that was declared by the lecturers in the institution over wage disagreement.
Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of AAU, Mr. Edward Aihevba were futile. He neither picked nor returned any of the calls made to his mobile telephone number.
A response to a text message sent to him on the subject was still being awaited as at the time of filing this report.
Recall that Governor Obaseki had also named a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ekehuan Campus, Prof. Aduwa Ogiegbaen as the VC of University Education, Ekiadolor, Ovia North East Loval Government Area of the State over four years ago.
But his appointment ended up as a stillbirth due to the inability of the State Government to finance the upgrade the state-owned College of Education to assume the status of University of Education with the requisite infrastructure and personnel.
The State Government however took steps which made the federal Government to takeover the institution and continued reconstruction work in the federal College of Education, Ekiadolor.
Investigation revealed that work has reached advanced stage in the institution while the first set of students intake may be announced before the end of the year by concerned authorities.
