The Management of University of Benin (UNIBEN) has kept mum on the identity of a man who reportedly stole a car from Ugbowo Campus in the institution.
The suspected car thief was said.to have used a special unlock device to remove the vehicle from UNIBEN car park during working hours last week.
Sources said the suspect had beat private security guards in the University and drove- off the vehicle through the Anatomy exit gate of the institution.
It was another Staff of the University who sighted the fugitive behind the wheel of the vehicle outside the Campus, alerted the owner.
A search party later recovered the vehicle on the Benin Technical school road in Egor Local Government Area of the State where the suspected car thief crashed the vehicle.
Sources said the suspect was dragged out of the stolen vehicle and lynched by a mob who paraded him back to the Campus before he was handed over police for further investigation and prosecution.
A Senior Staff of the University hinted that the owner of the stolen vehicle,.”Mr. Eke had initially expressed surprise and dangled his car keys when his co-worker drew his attention to the incident”.
The Staff who craved for anonymity, revealed that the car owner, ran to the parking lot and discovered that his car was no longer there, prompting him to raise the alarm.
