The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Management has raised alarm over the influx of ‘professional admission racketeers’ who hibernate at admissions offices or the administration building in the institution.
The Public Relations officer (PRO) of the University, Dr. (Mrs.) Ehanire in a statement on Saturday, said the “unscrupulous elements collect huge sums of money from their victims, pretending that they can get them admission into some choice programmes in the University”.
She alleged that the unnamed fraudsters have perfected the acts of going into admissions offices or the administration building to buttress their nefarious deeds.
The statement titled: ‘Admission Racketeering – Alert!’, also urge members of the public to be watchful of these “individuals whose job is to take advantage of innocent citizens seeking admission”.
The institution enjoin “persons who have been scammed should report to the office of the University PRO with proof to help the University system to regain its battered image. Admission may be guaranteed such whistle blowers if qualified”.
