Ondo police deny fatalities in bullion van robbery attack

The Ondo State police Command says no life was lost in a bullion van robbery attack on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred in Elemoso village on Akure-Ondo highway in Ondo East Local Government Area of the State.

Multiple reports, said the gunmen fired gunshots and intercepted the vehicle conveying cash from a bank to Akure, the State Capital and made away undisclosed cash.

Confidential sources said the hoodlums who rode on a while Hilux car, operated unhindered for about 20 minutes and left the crime before Amotekun security personnel and local hunters, arrived the crime scene.

The incident caused panic among residents of the area, pedestrians who fled the scene while some commuters abandoned their vehicles in a traffic jam.

Spokesman of Ondo State police Command, Tee Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident, but said no life was lost in the attack.

But the State Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said three people were shot by the armed robbers who fled into bushes.

He stated however that one of the victims who sustained gunshot injury, was rescued at the scene.

Adeleye said other victims had been taken to hospital for urgent medical attention.

Relics of bank shattered windscreen littered the scene.
