Nine wedding guests were reportedly crushed to death when an articulated truck collided with a passeger bus at Ekpon junction on the Agbor-Ewohimi road, Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.

Sources familiar with the situation said, the travellers left Benin for Ewatto Community, Esan South East Local Government Area to attend a wedding Ceremony of when the tragedy occurred on Saturday.

The 10-seater Toyota Siena bus collided with Dangote truck conveying cement from the to the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.

All except one of the 10 passengers survived the died immediately, according to sources.

But the Dangote truck crushes nine wedding guests to death in Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Henry Benamaisia, who confirmed the accident, said only five persons died at the scene of crash.

“10 persons were involved in the accident including the truck driver and motor boy. Five died on the spot, three were unconscious and rushed to the hospital,”

“The truck driver and his motor boy were unhurt. I have ask my men to go to the hospital to ascertain the status of those rushed to the hospital and I will give you update,” he said.

Benamaisia, however attributed the accident to over speeding and lost of control.

Our Correspondent reports that the injured victim who sustained injury in the accident has been taken to hospital for treatment while the deceased had been kept at undisclosed morgue.
