Why Obaseki dethroned minister’s king


The Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has dethroned the village head of South East Uneme in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo state, HRH Chief Benjamin Ikani.


Ikani, the Oliola of Uzanu Clan of South Uneme, was in charge of Mr. Clement Agba, minister of Budget and National Planning (State) country home in the State.

The Government in a letter by the Secretary to State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie, cited incessant and flagrant disregard to peace agreement and Government directive to maintain peace In Uzanu Community and its environs by the Oliola.

Obaseki had in May 2018, granted pardon to His Royal Highness, Aselm Aidonoje, the traditional ruler (Onojie) of Uromi in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State who was deposed by his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in 2016.

Many subjects of Chief Ikani and residents in the State have taken to social media to expressed their displeasure over the government decision.

Others have also expressed divergent views in supported the Government decision.

The Minister and governor Obaseki have been engaged in war of words over the #30 billion Benin City storm water project.

Mr. Agba, had accused Governor Obaseki administration of abandoning the Benin City storm water master plan project that was initiated by former Governor of the State, Adams Oshiomhole.

Months later, the Governor, during an inspection of some road projects in Benin threatened to raise a probe panel on the N30bn Benin storm water project that was awarded at the time when Agba was the State Commissioner for Environment and Public Utilities – a ministry which supervised the contract processes.
