Police in Edo State have claimed ignorance on the renewed cult war which claimed two lives in in some parts of the State.
The spokesman of Edo State police Command, SP. Bello Kotongs, that he has not be briefed on the matter.
According to him, the Divisional police officers of various police station usually briefed the Command of any development but “I am not aware of this one”.
But investigation revealed that the fatal cult clash which is between suspected members of Black Axe and Eiye confraternity groups, left scores injured.
The current show of strength between members of the brotherhood, started on Saturday following the beheading of one Mr Ogbomo whose parents live in Agbonmoba Street in Oredo Local Government Area of the State by a rival cult group.
Multiple sources said Mr Ogbomo was reportedly trailed and hacked death on Esigie Street by a four-man gang at about 4p.m.
The incident, forced residents in the area to lock their shops while a few others abandoned their businesses and scampered for safety.
Angered by the victim’s death, the rival group was said to have retaliated his killing on Monday evening by killing an unidentified commercial bus driver at the Murtala Mohammed (MM) way by Esigie junction while conveying passengers to New Benin market in the locality.
Another source familiar with the situation said the unidentified bus driver was blocked by fierce looking young men in Audi Salon car ordered the bus driver with a gun and shot him severally on the head and left him in the pool of his own blood.
At about 12a.m on Monday, police officers allegedly engaged the hoodlums in a shoot-out at a popular brothel on First East Circular road in Benin City.
The suspected cultists were at the Brothel to hangout when some armed police operatives attempted to swoop on them.
A trader who lives in the area said her brother in-law had to postpone the weaning of his child to avoid been caught in a crossfire.
