Police operatives in Benue returned gunfire when gunmen launched attack on police station in Uzoakoli, Bende Local government Area of Abia State.

But the gunmen however set the station ablaze after a few security personnel on duty retreated and fled into the bushes.

The spokesman of the Nigeria police, Abia State Command, CSP Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident, and promised to give update later.

Recall that Governors of South East on Sunday last week, set up a joint security outfit codenamed Ebubeagu — fear of lion in a bid to stem rising security threats in the region after the gunmen breached the Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri, the Imo State Capital, freeing over 1500 inmates
