This happened barely one months after a female Pont of Sale (POS) operator who stabbed herself after she lost the sum of N500, 000 to armed robbers in Benin City and brought to the Specialist hospital, in March this year, had an unpleasant experience.

The victim was allegedly abandoned for over 30 minutes until her family members and friends could raise the initial cash deposit of N30, 000 requested by the hospital Management before medical personnel at the hospital commenced treatment.

A source familiar with the situation, said the middle-aged woman who gasped for breadth, was one of the survivors in a fatal crash that occurred on Benin- Auchi road in the early hours of Saturday.

The source revealed that “the injured woman was brought to Accident and Emergency (A & E) unit in the hospital by an Audi 80 Cab driver who was turned back for alleged failure to part with the sum of N30, 000 cash as an initial deposit, requested by the hospital Management”.

The source who craved for anonymity, explained that the Cab driver had pleaded with the Management of the hospital to accept the accident victim who was unconscious.

But, the plea by the driver, rebuffed by the Management.

The Cab driver, according to the source, was later advised by a motley of crowd that converged on the hospital premises, advised the commuter to take the accident victim to the University of Benin Teaching hospital (UBTH).

Effort to obtain comments from Hospital’s Management and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Osamwonyi Irowa, were unsuccessful.

The Edo Specialist hospital was built by Edo State Government and inaugurated at the twilight of the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in 2016 and passed over to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

Members of Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO’s) then headed by ‘the incorruptible Leftist Omobude Agho’, and other pressure groups including The Talakawa Parliament led by Marxist Kola Edokpayi, had embarked on series of protests, demanding to know the true status and operation of the gigantic edifice on Sapele road in Benin City, remains a mystery to Edo tax-payers, before it was opened to the public.
