UNIBEN douses tension, lifts suspension of students union executives

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Senate has lifted the suspension of students’ Union executives, after two weeks of brinkmanship between the institutions and the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS).

This followed the letters of appeal by the executives to the Senate and School Management as well as intervention by Edo State Government and other Stakeholders.

The Public Relations officer of the University, Dr. (Mrs.) Benedicta Ehanire disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

The statement recalls that “the Union activities were suspended on March 30, 2021, as a result of as activities actions by the Union executives to undermine the authority of the School Management in the wake of the re-adjustment of the Second Semester Calendar”.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Lilian Imuetiyan had called the bluff of NAN for threatening a mass action in reaction to the decision of the ivory tower.
