The Edo State Government has declared its intention to fight undemocratic forces against good governance in the State.
The State deputy governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu said this at a reception party in honour of the immediate past Chairmen of 18 Local Government Councils Chairmen on Sunday in Benin City.
In a veil reference to the bloody leadership clashes in defence of Oshiomhole in the State house of Assembly when he was a member years ago, the deputy Governor stated that he wont give up the fight in a bid to make poverty history, which Oshiomhole’s government couldn’t achieve.
“I was brutalised, and I had knee cap replaced under the administration of former Governor of the State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole”, he said, he would lead another fight in defence of Edo people when the need arises.
Shaibu, described Oshiomhole, former national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as ‘opportunist’ who betrayed his people.
He also, alleged that Oshiomhole has emerged as the new godfather against the struggle to make poverty history, which prompted him to fight on the side of the people under Godwin Obaseki” administration.
According to him, “The players do not matter. What is constant is that whoever stands against all of us from making making poverty history in Edo. This time around I will also be in forefront of that fight
“People say that I am loyal, I am loyal to a cause. I was brutalised, injured, and I had knee and everything replaced. I had scars under Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole administration.
“What was it for? Because some godfathers wanted to derail our vision from making poverty history in Edo. And we fought on the side of the people and the beneficiary of that struggle, was Oshiomhole.
“The second fight. Now Oshiomhole became the new godfather against the struggle to make poverty history. This time I also fought on the side of the people under Godwin Obaseki. The players do not matter. What is constant is that whoever stands against all of us from making making poverty history in Edo. This time around I will also be in forefront of that fight”, he said.
The deputy Governor commended the former Council bosses for prudent management of public funds and for resisting all manners of precious gifts and financial inducement to mortgage the future of their during their tenure as elected Chairmen of the Councils.
On his part, Mr. Jenkins Osunde the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council who spoke on behalf of the former Council Chairmen, thanked the Government for giving them the opportunity to serve.
He noted that Governor Godwin Obaseki neither tempered with Local Government funds nor interfere with the administration of Local Government Councils.
