Protest in Delta hospital over ‘missing corpse’

The family of Amughoro in Oghara, Ethiop West Local Government Council, Delta State has declared body of Mrs. Patience Amughoro missing.

The 58-year-old woman who passed after a brief illness and deposited in one of the mortuaries in the locality, led to the arrest a Mortician linked to the incident by the police and postponement of the burial rites of deceased earlier slated for February 20, 2021.

Family sources said, Okiemute who claimed to be family member of the decease revealed that the Mortician, fearing attack, had presented another body to Omughoro family stormed the Mortuary as a decor, but it was rejected by the agonized family.

The protest by the family members, attracted the attention of police who took the suspect (Mortician) into its custody for interrogation.

According to Okienute, “Amughoro’s own, “that was when he (the morgue attendant) began pacing up and down looking for the body, that was when he told us that the body was missing.

“We were shocked. There was no explanation. We had made arrangements to give our Auntie a good send-off, and it hurts that we don’t have his body,” Okiemute said, they had made a statement with the police.

“Madam Amughoro died last year after a brief illness, she was kept in the mortuary while her children and relatives continue their plan to commit her to mother earth, but on Saturday, after the canopies and chairs were arranged and even grave dug, we went to the hospital’s morgue and discovered that the body of the woman is missing, as I speak to you they have arrested the mortuary attendant”.

The hospital Management did not respond to the inquiry made by TheNewspad.com while the spokesperson of the Nigeria police, Delta State Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, declined comment on the incident.
