…vows affection for Obaseki’s insight in governance
A former Commissioner for information and Communication in Edo State, Mr. Efe Stewart, has been honoured for promoting democratic values in defence of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s mandate during the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the State.
Speaking at a grand reception in honour of Mr. Efe Stewart, the Chairman Egor PDP at the Weekend, Chief Ekundayo Idehen, described him as a man of strong character, integrity, determination and a true son of the soil who helped to promote unity in the party.
Ekundayo, revealed that prior to his appointment by Governor Obaseki, Mr. Stewart, assisted over 40 indigenes of the locality to secure jobs during his short period in the public service where he served without blemish.
Recalling his sacrifices and commitment over the years, the PDP leader in Egor Local Government Area, Mr. Nosa Adams, commended the former Commissioner for not only ensuring that Obaseki votes count, but, for helping to defend the votes from the 10 Wards to the collation Centre in the Local Government during odd hours during the Governorship election.
Mr. Nosa however warned against imposition of Candidate, ahead of the forthcoming Local Government election in the State.
“He (Stewart) helped to enhance the growth we were expecting in Egor Local Government Area. So, the feat that we have achieved in the area, he contributed immensely, hence, we resolved to honour him”, he said.
In a remark, the former Commissioner, Mr. Efe Stewart who dedicated his award to Governor Obaseki and pledged his loyalty to PDP, stressed that Obaseki’s achievements which cut across the three Senatorial districts of the State, are unprecedented.
“Governor Obaseki is a special gift to Edo people. He has come to change the narrative of democracy in Edo State.
“I thank Governor Godwin Obaseki who made it possible for him to serve in the previous cabinet.
During that Governorship election, we were physically present to ensure that we educate the people in terms of what Obaseki has done for the people in terms of development.
“We stood our ground and said, Edo is not Lagos”, he said.
On his part, the deputy State Chairman of PDP, Mr. Harrison Omagbon, lauded members and leaders of PDP in the locality
for their resilience after Governor Godwin Obaseki with his deputy, Hon. Philip Shaibu dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the umbrella party.
Also speaking, a former member of the State house of Assembly, Mrs. Esohe Jacob, appealed to women in the locality not to renege in their support for Mr. Stewart in order to make a lasting impact and attract more development to the area.
Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Benin, Kingsley Omoyibo who delivered a keynote address titled, “The need for productive service delivery as a political office holder”, tasked public office holders to work hard to build capacity and provide infrastructure particularly affordable healthcare for the electorate in order not to live in perpetual fear after their tenure in office.
“Political office holders should realize that there is a day of reckoning. The desirable choice is yours and it is real”, he stressed.
