‘Oshiomhole men’ allege conspiracy as APC membership registration begins

.

Elected All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly members from Edo north Senatorial district in Edo State have accused the national leadership of the party of grand conspiracy in the appointment of a non-serving Senator, Domingo Obende as Chairman of APC membership registration and revalidation Committee in Niger State.

Similarly, Colonel David Imuse, Rtd, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the APC in Edo State, has petitioned the national Secretariat of the party over Sen. Obende’s appointment, alleging that he is no longer a member of the party.

The Lawmakers—Senator Francis Alimikhena, Peter Akpatason, Johnson Eguakhide and Julius Ihonvbere who rode on the shoulders of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole during the 2019 general elections, disclosed this in a joint statement issued ahead of the APC membership registration exercise, which begins today (January 25, 2021) nationwide.

The quartet, call on the Interim National Working Committee of the APC to withdraw Domingo Obende’s appointment, describing the move as “grave and provocative error that is capable to derailing and mortgaging the entire exercise if not urgently redressed”.

The Lawmakers stressed that Domingo Obende is not a member of the APC, alleging that he was suspended by his Ward for persistent anti-party activities before he defected to the PDP.

The statement reads: “We consider this a grave and provocative error that is capable to derailing and mortgaging the entire exercise if not urgently redressed.

“Domingo Obende is not a member of the APC. He was suspended by his Ward for persistent anti-party activities before he decamped to the PDP. In the last gubernatorial election he worked openly and actively against the APC.

“We call on the Interim National Working Committee to reverse this nomination of Domingo Obende immediately in the interest of the party”, according to them.

But, Sen. Domingo Obende, denied the claims of being involve in anti-party activities levelled against him, insisting that remained a bonafide member of the APC.

He recalled that ” in November 2020, I was the one that paid one year rent for the APC Secretariat in Akoko-Edo, my local government.

“First and foremost, nobody saw me in any meeting or rally organised by the PDP. The keys to my house in Igarra are with me and whenever I go home I enter my house. I didn’t see anybody come to share money in my house.

“I supported Godwin Obaseki till the end‎ in the APC but we parted ways when he defected to the PDP. So, I remain a member of my party, the APC”, Senator Obende said and wondered why Imuse would make such allegation when as a member of the National Committee of the party he played a role in the recent Ondo State Governorship election.
