Defunct CPC leaders back Buhari mission to save Nigeria

A pressure group, New Nigeria Movement (NNM), has expressed confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari competence in providing effective leadership and give a new direction to Nigeria ahead of 2023 general elections.

Members of the group, comprising patriotic and credible Nigerians who formed the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), which is among three major political parties — All Congress for Change (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and part of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) that merged with others to form the APC in 2013 and produced President Muhammadu Buhari who defeated the incumbent, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 general elections.

In a Communiqué signed by Alhaji Dan Zogo Haruna Dan Zogo, the former Chairman of the defunct CPC in Kano State who was elected as the National Chairman of New Nigeria Movement at the end of its inaugural meeting in Abuja Tuesday, promised to engage those who might attempt to derail the APC administration henceforth”.

But the group, regretted that most members of the defunct CPC laboured tirelessly for President Muhammadu Buhari had been sidelined in the government.

Part of the Communiqué reads: “First the New Nigeria Movement is not seeking to become a new political platform.
“It is aimed at supporting President Mohamandu Buhari towards achieving his original objective of giving Nigeria the desired leadership that will alleviate the hardship in which previous administrations plunged Nigeria.

“We believe that we need to renew our support and strategy to ease governance for our great party — All Progressives Congress (APC).

“While we are unhappy that most of us have not been offered the merited opportunity to serve in the government we laboured tirelessly to bring about, our faith in the competence of President Buhari to get Nigeria out of the hardship in which he took over the administration remains very robust.

“We are ready to engage those who might attempt to derail the APC administration henceforth.

“We empathize with President Muhamadu Buhari on his sincere effort of salvaging Nigeria from the age long decay and also commending him for reminding the National Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State on the need to keep our commitment to all members of the merger (e.g CPC, ACN, ANPP etc)

“Our movement is in total support of the clarion call by Nigerians for power shift to the South and generational power shift”, the Communiqué said.
