The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has described the new year Day cell break at Edo State police headquarters as unfortunate.

The State Chairman of the party, Mr. Tony Aiziegbemin made the allegation while reacting to the escape of some suspected hardened criminals at the State Criminals Investigation Department (SCID) Cell on January 1, 2021.
Aiziegbemin, accused the main opposition party in the State of been responsible for the conspiracy that he claimed was meant to rubbish Governor Godwin Obaseki’s effort in securing the State.
According to him, “That is clearly a conspiracy. We think that the opposition are trying to rubbish or paint the PDP government in Edo State in bad light.
“The State CID is suppose to be a secured facility. That is not a police station that is anywhere. That is a secured facility. It should be a secured facility.
“You do not have to be a security analysts to know that that is just a conspiracy to know what happened. There is no better word to use to describe it. And I am sure that it is the EPM elements in the APC that were behind it.
“When the story came out they said hundreds of people escaped from the cell. But they came back to say ten people escaped. So, what account for that discrepancies if not for politics and the conspiracy?”, he said.
But the Public Relations Officer of Edo State Police Command, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the escape of ten suspected criminals from the police Cell on Monday in a statement.
He alleged that two out of the ten suspects have been re-arrested and brought back to custody, adding that efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Nwabuzor also said in the statement that the “policemen who were responsible for for the safe custody of the escaped suspects have been identified, arrested and detained for departmental disciplinary process”.
