A member of a four-man robbery suspect has narrowly escaped been burnt to death by an angry mob on the outskirts of Benin City.
The hoodlum who was beaten to pulp by a motley of youths, amidst accusation of breaking into a residence on Holy Rosary Catholic Church Road, Ugbowo Quarters in Egor Local Government Council Area of Edo State on Wednesday.
Luck however ran out of the suspect when brave youths chased the fleeing gang after a botched robbery operation in the locality.
The gang specialises in robbing residents of their money and other valuables in the area, according to reports from the locality.
Some members of a local vigilance group who emerged from no where, rescued the robbery suspect at the verge of been burnt to death, amidst protest by residents in the area.
It was learnt that suspect later died after attempts to revive him failed ostensibly as a result of the injuries he suffered during the melee before some police personnel attached to Ugbowo Division arrived the scene.
The Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reach for comment as his mobile number was unavailable at the time of filing this report.
