40m Nigerians’ in support of my presidential ambition — Yerima dismisses zoning

Two terms Governor of Zamfara State, Mr. Ahmed Yerima has joined the 2023 presidential race on the the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja where he boasted that there are 30-40 million Nigerian who are in support of his ambition.

He also dismissed zoning in APC presidential ticket after the merger deal was brokered shortly before the 2015 presidential elections.

“Before I officially declare, I will have at least 30-40 millions’ supporters and I assure you that I have the capacity to achieve that. I already have more than 4000 supporters in Imo State. I have more than 7000 supporters who have declared their interest to support me in Enugu State. I also have over 400,000 supporters in Katsina State, different States. APC, Peoples Democratic party (PDP)”, he said.

Yerima, explained that zoning is not known to the Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

According to him, “The Constitution is very clear, the Constitution of the political parties, the Electoral Act. We are in democracy and democracy is governed by processes and procedures and bye-laws. So, the Constitution of Nigeria doesn’t recognise anything called zoning…Check the APC Constitution whether there is any agreement. Why didn’t we put it in the Constitution.
