Outrage as gunmen attack former youth leader in Benin

A former chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Edo State Chapter, Mr. Austin Odigie has been attacked by suspected armed robbers in Benin City, the State Capital.

According to a Benin based crime reporter, Mr. Festus Alenkhe, the legal luminary, was attacked by four unknown gunmen on Ehaekpen street in Benin City, Edo State at 6:15p.m at the Weekend.

The quartet who waylaid him while entering his car, forced him off the wheel and took charge of his vehicle.

The hoodlums were said to have immediately ordered him at gun point to go to the back seat of his sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) where he was forcefully laid on the floor while they trapped him under the floor of his car round Benin City.

They hoodlums were said to have also collected his Automated Teller machine cards and forced him to release the pin codes, paving the way for them to make unauthorized withdrawal from his Bank Accounts.

According to reports, the robbers drove him to various ATM stands in Benin city where they collected thousands of Naira from his all his Bank accounts.

The lawyer was giving the beaten of his life by the hoodlums who attempted to take him to his house but later shelved the plan.

Investigation further revealed that the armed men finally took their victim to Ore-Oghene primary school in Benin city after three hours of torture.

The former Edo State Youth Council chairman, however raised alarm in the area, prompting curious residents in the area to inquire what was amiss.

A resident in the area who recognised him, assisted him out of the locality for medical attention.

As at press time, the snatched Pathfinder vehicle has been recovered by police operatives attached to Evbuotubu police station in Benin.

The police however promised to go after the hoodlums and ensure that they are arrested and prosecuted soon.

The Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, assured residents of the State, a peaceful yuletide Celebration at the Weekend, following the deployment of additional security operatives to the State by the Inspector-General of police, Mr. Adamu Mohammed.
