A TEAM OF RESEARCHERS FROM UNIBEN INTRODUCING THE VENTILATOR TO PROF. LILIAN SALAMI, VICE CHANCELLOR, UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Lilian Salami, revealed this during a chat with newsmen in Benin City, ahead of the University 50th Founder’s Day/Interdenominational anniversary on Monday.

She noted that the inanition is already working towards patenting the home-grown products and mass production especially the hand washing machine which is now in high demand by associations and corporate organizations.

“In addition to that, the ventilators which the researchers also produced to help with the oxygen needs of Covid-19 patients. We have done that. SON has carried out assessment on it. We have been given a pass mark. But, that is not something that is commonly used by everybody. It is only when Medical institutions need them that will order.

Recall that the Vice-Chancellor, had challenged a team of researchers headed by Prof. Obahiagbon not.to yield to brain fog during Covid-19 lockdown, but put their intellect to work in solving global problems.

According to the VC, “Our product is not only unique because it us automated, but, just stepping on the platform would allow the process to begin. Whereas in some others that we see, you have to either touch something before the process begins. Unlike our hand washing machine that responds with your shadow before stepping on the platform. That is the uniqueness of our products.

Prof. Salami, stated that Professors from University have the intellectual depth to compete with their counterpart in other climes if the enabling environment and funding are provided.

The Vice-Chancellor, stressed that there are some professors who have got prizes for their excellent work.

“There is a gentleman who was signaled out in UNIBEN when presentations were made to tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) just last year. He won the best research output.

“I did mentioned earlier that some our professors can compete or measure anywhere. Some have done well in their own areas of specialization. So, the University is not lacking in research breakthroughs. We have a lot of catalogue of our breakthroughs including the Computer Based Test (CBT) software that is been used by JAMB and other external Examinations”, she said.
