*PDP govs, Ehanire, others attend inauguration
The re-elected governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki with his deputy, Mr. Philip Shaibu has been sworn-in for a second term of four-year in office.
The Chief judge of the State, justice Esther Edigin administered the oath of office and allegiance on them on Thursday afternoon at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City, the State Capital where he raised stake for good governance.
Delivering his inauguration speech at the Ceremony, Governor Godwin Obaseki, said that the Sept. 19 Governorship election represents a new hope and restored confidence in democracy and its institutions in Nigeria.
He said that their re-election has made them to become a point of reference on how the will of of the people can triumph in a democracy that functions properly.
Obaseki emphasized that their electoral victory offers an opportunity for them to bridge the gap between a challenged past and a promising future.
He revealed that the impact of global Coronavirus, has caused significant disruption to lives and livelihoods and compelled his government to reassess its choices in the light if the unfolding intrigues and paradoxes in the face of global economic downturn.
He stated that the time has come for everyone to heal up and put behind the unfortunate crisis the people have had to endure for decades that resulted to divisions and inequality, underdevelopment poverty, insecurity and unequal distribution of opportunities.
The “unfortunate crisis we have had to endure as a people over the decades has led to deep divisions, which has resulted in inequality, I justice, underdevelopment, poverty, insecurity and unequal distribution of opportunities”.
“Sept. 19 governorship election is the restoration of confidence in democracy and its institutions, and we have become a point of reference in how the will of of the people can triumph in a democracy that functions properly.
According to him, “That I stand before you today as the re-elected Governor of Edo State is a testimony to the awesome power power of God Almighty and the indomitable will and determination of the great people of Edo State.
“My re-election represents a new hope and I see myself as a vessel in the redefinition of democracy in Nigeria and I am not unaware that this places enormous responsibility on me.
“…Our victory offers an opportunity for us to to bridge the gap between a challenged past and a promising future.
“The unfortunate crisis we have had to endure as a people over the decades has led to deep divisions, which has resulted in inequality, I justice, underdevelopment, poverty, insecurity and unequal distribution of opportunities.
“However, this is the time to heal. We are kith and kin with a common destiny. Let us now stop dwelling on the past. It is time to take our collective destinies in our own hands as Edo people and commence the arduous task of making Edo great again (MEGA).
He also promised to grow social sector by constantly improving Education, healthcare system, provision of social security and safety nets, caring for the vulnerable as top priority in his second term which begins on Thursday November 12, 2020.
Our Correspondent reports that the minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, some Governors who were elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Mr. Aminu Waziri Tambuwa (Sokoto), Sen. Douye Diri (Bayelsa) and Sen. Ifeayi Okowa (Delta) with his wife, Mrs. Edith Okowa, while Mr. Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Mr. Oluwaroti Akeredolu (Ondo) States were represented by their deputies at the event which was held in strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols.
