Police arrest pregnant Lady car snatcher, two accomplices in Edo


A pregnant Lady car snatcher and other two male accomplices have been arrested by police operatives in Benin City, Edo State Capital.


The pregnant woman, Jumoke Akanbieme, was arrested along with two other suspects, Osagiede Izevbokun and Godfrey Okonide by policemen from Ugbekun Division in Benin by the police at the point. of dismantling and selling a Toyota Camry they allegedly snatched from its unidentified owner on Friday October 9, 2020.

Ms Akanbieme, according to reports, pretended to be in labour pains along the road while her male accomplices waited in a nearby hideout to attack any unsuspecting commuter who stopped ostensibly to assist her.

Nemesis caught up with her after robbing the unsuspecting owner of a Toyota Camry who stopped to assist her on Murtala Mohammed Way in Benin when the other two male accomplices came out from their hideouts and forced the driver to drive to Sakpoba Road before the car was snatched.

The source said, “The three suspects, including a nine-month-old pregnant woman, have been arrested for alleged armed robbery. The two male suspects usually push the woman to stay by the roadside pretending to be in labour.

“On the said day, a man driving a Toyota Camry saw the lady at Murtala Mohammed Way in Benin and stopped to help her, but the men later alighted from their hideout and forced the man to drive to Upper Sakpoba Road where the car was snatched”.

The spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, said the suspected robbers were to dismantle the car and dispose of it as spare parts when the police from Ugbekun Division reportedly swooped on them and arrested the woman and her accomplices.

According to him, “The car was to be dismantled as spare parts for sale when policemen from Ugbekun Division swooped on them and arrested the woman, Jumoke Akanbieme, the two men, Osagiede Izevbokun and Godfrey Okonide at the scene.

“They usually feign that she was in labour along the road while her accomplices would pounce on anyone that stopped to help her. So many cars have been snatched by the syndicate in the same manner”.

Fielding questions from newsmen, the pregnant lady suspect, Ms Akanbieme, said her boyfriend, who is on the run, lured her into the business.

Our Correspondent reports that will soon be detain at the police Clinic to enable her access medical examination before she will appear in court.
