College of Education lecturer commits suicide in Edo

A Senior lecturer at the Federal College of Education, formerly known as Tayo Akpata University, Ekiadolor, Benin, Friday Orobator, has committed suicide.

The body of the lecturer who worked in the Department of Adult Education of the Institution, was discovered dangling on a rope behind his apartment at his residence in Obakhavbaye Street in Benin City at about 1:30 pm on Friday.

Orobator’s wife was recently delivered of a baby before the tragedy which has set tongues waging, struck.

Curious neighbours, found the the green rope he used to hang himself still on his neck and invited police personnel attached to Oba market police Division who took his body to a morgue.

The late lecturer believed to be be in his 50’s was among the Staff of the College who recently staged a peaceful protest in Benin City over unpaid salary arrears.

The Chairman of COEASU of the tertiary institution, Mr. Fred Omonuwa who confirmed the Mr. orobator’s death to newsmen, alleged that the late father of four Children have not been paid for 13 months.

“Quite, unfortunately, Mr. Orobator could no longer provide for himself and his family. His wife has just had a baby”, he said menacingly.

Our Correspondent reports that police are yet to confirm if the decease left a note behind before he allegedly took his life.
