The Environmental Rights Action and Friends of the Earth Nigeria, (ERA/FoEN) has provided a found fertile ground for 100 young Nigerian inventors to compete for honours.
Briefing newsmen on the sideline of the exhibition arena on Tuesday in Benin City, the Executive Director of the Organization, Dr. Godwin Uyi Ojo, said 30 successful youths, will be seconded on scholarship to the national power training Institute of Nigeria, an agency that is training manpower for the whole of West Africa, at the end of the programme.
The initiative issue which aimed at encourage the youths in their productive capacity to solve the energy deficiency in Nigeria, drew participants from 36 States in Nigeria.
According to him, “So, Nigeria is moving towards energy transition and the solution is finding alternative in renewable energy such as solar.
“Some of the youths are here with the solar that they have manufactured, others with their inverters, soil testing equipment and other varieties of products that have been showcased.
“Some of them are prototype. What we have done is to link them up and give them the platform to showcase their talents and these entrepreneurs will hopefully take them on board and then we do hope that we hear from them soon.
Speaking on the how to cope with the challenges of mass production in Nigeria, Ojo assured that “people who will sign on them to roll-out their products. In particular, Danjab solar energy Enterprises has just been incorporated and their product is on the shelve there and is already in the market.
“So, the scale up is a problem, but, we appeal to entrepreneurs and people that are interested in renewable energy product to come to the aide of these young ones and partner with them so that we can upscale on these products and prototype that we are seeing.
“One of them is a young man who produced cash dispensing machine. There are a whole lot of them here.
Earlier, Engr. Abdullahi Aliyu, the assistant Director (Training) of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria(NAPTIN), promised that his agency would always be available to offer the needed help to any youth who has an innovation to showcase.
Mrs. Damilola Asaleye, the co-founder/Chief Operating Officer of Ashdam Solar Company Ltd, gave reasons why Nigerians have to embrace renewable energy which includes to provide reliable power supply; to allow fuel diversification; to enhance energy security; to lower risk of fuel spills; to help conserve the nation’s natural resources and to mitigate climate change.
