Robbers rob Benin residents ahead of Edo governorship election

Suspected armed robbers on Thursday evening robbed some residents of Uselu in Benin barely 24 hours to Saturday Governorship election in Edo State.

The incident which occurred few beside Uselu Guest house near Textile Mill road junction by Uselu-Ugbowo road, caused pandemonium in the neighbourhood.

A resident of the area who spoke from his hideout, hinted that two persons were allegedly brutalized by the hoodlums during the incident.

The resident who craved for anonymity, alleged that the robbers took to flight upon sighting a police patrol team barely 40 minutes after raiding the area unhindered.

A top policeman who responded to the inquiry by our Correspondent on Thursday evening, said, “My men are on the road right now”.

He however did not give further details.

Earlier in the week, the Inspector-General of police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Adamu, deployed over 31, 000 police personnel to Edo State ahead of the poll.

Iyobanosa Street and its environs have become a den of hoodlums despite its proximity to the Textile Mill road Police Division.

The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report.
