He said this at Channels TV’s Governorship Debate tagged Edo 2020 on Sunday.

He said it is unrealistic to continue on that part of perfidy, promising that to encourage other taxable Nigerians who may not have been paying taxes as part of measures to expand the tax nest if reelected.

“Unlike in the era of my political opponent, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who served government where non-state actors from people in Edo State. We will not allow Lions and Tigers collect taxes in Edo”.

He said that revenue of the State under his watch had dropped under the global Covid-19 (Coronavirus pandemic hibernation, ostensibly due to relaxation of some revenue sources.

The Governor berated his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, saying he borrowed recklessly when he was in office, plunging the state into serious debt to the tune of N120 billion.

The governor said Edo’s debt moved to N120 billion and that he had been able to reduce the debt stock.

On his part, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship Candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, promised to abolish multiple taxation and streamline tax collection in Edo and include more taxable Nigerians and organizations into the tax nest if given the mandate to govern the State.

He however countered Obaseki, saying that it is scandalous for him to attribute the huge debt to Oshiomhole were he was the Chief Economic Adviser.

“It is scandalous to attribute the huge debt to a predecessor that you were the Chief Economic Adviser to. Sometimes you seem to forget the role you played in the past government.

The governor said Edo’s debt moved to N120 billion and that he had been able to reduce the debt stock.

“In the agricultural sector, the loan that the governor has collected is staggering the failed SUBE Project, two million went down the drain. The Agenegbode Rice Project, five billion went down the drain.
