PDP: Nigerians will resist attempt to subvert Edo peoples’ mandate


The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has said that Nigerians will resist any act of subversion of the mandate of the electorate in the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in the State.


Edo State Chairman of PDP, Mr. Tony Aiziegbemi, disclosed this during a Media briefing on Sunday in Benin City.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to carryout their statutory responsibilities in accordance with the laws and be neutral.

“From multiple opinion polls conducted by independent bodies and organizations, the PDP has the support of 80 percent of the electorate while all other parties have 20 percent.

“Flowing from the above, we hereby demand in the strongest terms possible that INEC and the security agencies should carryout their statutory responsibilities based on the oath of office they sworn unto, which is be neutral.

“However, anyone who deviate from this sacred oath, which he or she willingly swear to, should know that such move will be resisted by Edo people.

“We will resist such people that will deviate from the oath of neutrality they took during the electoral process”, he said.

He alleged that no individual linked with electoral violence in the in the State has been prosecuted by the law enforcement agency.

The PDP Chairman, called on the Commissioner of police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo and other security agencies in the State to step up their efforts in curbing electoral violence in the State especially on the day of election.

“I call on other security agencies to step up their efforts before the election and especially on the day of election on the 19th of September 2020. They should justify the salaries they earn with tax-payers money.

“It will amaze you know that not one person has been arrested for these senseless attacks on our members, according to Aiziegbemi.

He also appealed to “parents of all the adhoc Staff that will be engaged in this election to call their wards to order. Edo people deserve free, fair, credible and peaceful election. And nobody, whether it is security agencies or the INEC will be allowed to subvert the will of Edo people”.

Speaking on the PDP Ward-to-Ward campaign which started five Weeks ago and ended on Saturday September 5th 2020, Mr. Aizigbemi, described the exercise as electrifying and awesome experience.

“Edo State Citizens came out in their number to catch a glimpse of our Candidate and to hear our message. We are indeed humbled by the act of love and support for our Candidate. We promise, we will not take things for granted.

“We went about with our campaign with peace and love, unfortunately, the APC made evil attempts to disrupt our campaign.

According to him, “We have catalogue of evidence of the senseless attacks on our supporters.

“We challenge the APC or any other party for that matter to show such evidence of their members that were attack.

“If not for the strong appeal from our Governor, Godwin Obaseki, you can imagine what could become of our State if retaliation was carried out by our members”, he declared.

He further passed a vote of confidence on members of Campaign Council and State Working Committee of PDP as well as Governor Godwin Obaseki with his deputy, Hon. Philip Shaibu for discharging the assignments given to them by the party most honourably and efficiently.

The PDP Chairman, thanked other Stakeholders particularly Edo Citizens who took part in the exercise which he described as a memorable one.
