Some descendants of Oba Esigie dynasty of the ancient City of Benin Kingdom who migrated to Ora in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State Centuries ago seem to be divided over the conferment of honorary Chieftaincy title on the Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the September 19, 2020, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu by some Chiefs last Week Thursday.
Ize-Iyamu, was conferred the Chieftaincy title of Oyakhire’ meaning, ‘he who wipes our tears’ by some Chiefs in Ohia Community, Ora Clan.
But, Joshua Aisiku, (professor emeritus), the Oje of Ora-designate of Ora clan in the Local Government Area of Edo at a Press briefing on Saturday, said that conferment of the chieftaincy title on the Candidate was a “calculated scam”.
Aisiku explained that in accordance to Ora history and tradition only the Oje of Ora reserved the exclusive right of conferring a chieftaincy title on any person.
He said, there was no Oje of Ora, as his emergency had been challenged in court and the case still pending in court.
He lamented the rationale behind the same person who took him to court to now flout court order and be confering titles without even a consultation.
He said: “I refute that report categorically in the strongest terms because it is devoid of any iota of truth. I want to make it clear that I never conferred any title on anybody.
“Reports that Ize-Iyamu was conferred with the title of Oyakhire of Ora, and that I, Chief Joshua Aisiku, conferred the title on him is a lie and a scam. I didn’t confer any title on the APC candidate, Ize-Iyamu on the 27th of August, 2020.”
According to him, “No chief has the right or power to confer honourary title on any individual as that right rests in the Oje of Ora exclusively”.
The Oje-designate said: “Some aspects of the media also said one chief Joshua Ikhidero and Chief John Akhihiero conferred the title on the APC candidate against all known tradition and customs of Ora. They didn’t consult any other chief, except the ones they put together.
“We have records that the past Oje of Ora, who has joined the ancestors conferred titles on some individuals, including the former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion; former Deputy Governor, Mike Oghiadomhe and the retired Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.”
He stressed: “The report of one chief giving title to Ize-Iyamu is against the customs and traditions of Ora. The rally they claimed was held to give him the title was held in Eme-Ora not in Sabongida-Ora as reported in social media.
“The event took place in the private residence of Chief John Akhihiero, not in the palace as reported in the social media. He has no palace, neither does he have any rights to call his residence a palace.”
Aisiku said Chief John Akhihiero claimed to be the Okojenaga of Ora, noting that “there is no such title but Okojenaga of Ohia.
“I was neither in Eme-Ora nor Ohia when this claimed title was given to APC candidate for the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State”, he said.
But Chief John Aikhihiero, who conferred the chieftaincy title on the Edo APC Candidate in a telephone interview, said that nobody had appointed Aisiku as the spokesperson of Ora.
Aikhihiero who claimed to be the Odion Orukpa of Ora (Eldest man in the Clan) also said that Nobody had also confirmed Aisiku as the Oje of Ora as the case over his emergence as the Oje of Ora was a subject of litigation and still pending in court.
Aikhihiero also claimed to be the Chairman of Ora traditional Council, said, ” Aisiku has no right to interrogate the issue. He is a Chief in Sabongidda-Ora.
“Nobody has made him the spokesman of Ora. Even on that very day Ize-Iyamu came, all the title holders were all present.
Aikhihiero, admitted that the case over the leadership tussle is in court, however, “I have the right to give him the title”, he declared.
