The Benin monarch, Ewuare II has described the mild drama that trailed the rescue of the immediate past Managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Ms Joy Nunieh by the River State Governor, Nyesom Wike from armed police operatives as interesting.
The traditional ruler made the remark when some elected PDP Governors led by Governor Godwin Obaseki and the party’s National Campaign Council for the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo State paid him a courtesy visit at his palace on Saturday in Benin City.
Oba Ewuare II who also singled out the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, commended Governor Wike leadership style in handling national and State issues.
Recall that Security Operatives had stormed the home of the former Interim Chairman of NDDC, Joy Nunieh at 3, Owuru Creek view, off Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
But, Governor Wike’s stormed the residence and prevented police from arresting Nunieh who was billed to appear before the Senate panel in Abuja investigating the financial malfeasance in the NDDC.
Commenting further on Govrnor Wike’s bravery, the monarch said, “I have keenly watched the activities of the Governor especially how you rescued that Lady was interesting to all of us here when we watched it on national television”.
He also recalled his visit to Rivers State aimed at strengthening ties between the people of the two states and also lauded him for the hospitality accorded him and his entourage.
Oba Ewuare II, described the position of the Benin Traditional stool as apolitical, just as he assured of his prayers for peaceful campaigns as well as the stability of the State and nation.
President Buhari’s Minister, Godswill, Mr Godswill Akpabio and Nunieh have been embroiled in war of words over allegations of corruption in the NDDC.
The former MD of NDDC, accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, budget padding, fraud, among others, which the Minister has denied.
