Two lawyers in court for rigging NBA election


Two lawyers have been charged to court for allegdly rigging the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA national election held August 2018.

The 14-count charges preferred against the duo, Sarah Ajibola, and John Demide, on May 15th 2020 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was filed at the federal high court in Lagos State.

The Commission, accused them of manipulating the 2018 election in favour of the incumbent President of the NBA Paul Usoro.

The suit is yet to be assigned to a judge.

Similarly, the president of NBA, Paul Usoro SAN, in June this year, had announced the suspension of into the Benin branch of the Association and also constituted a Caretaker Committee to handle the affairs of the Branch in line with Article 11 of the uniform By-laws for branches for a period of three months.

The directive which was conveyed to the Bar via a statement to the Benin Branch Elections Appeals Panel (Western Zone) alleged that the panel was constituted in contravention of the uniform Bye-laws for Branches and recommended that the said Election Committee be disbanded.

The move followed the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Executive Committee of Benin Branch of the NBA led by Mr. Collins Ogiegbaen on 15th June 2020.
