Edo State police Command has arrested a drunk police Officer for allegedly hunting sex workers with his rifle at a popular Brothel in Benin.
The intoxicated Cop simply identified as Mr Osagie, was said to have goaded a detached police operatives who disarmed and arrested him at the Brothel near B Division of the Nigeria police Station on Sapele road in Benin City.
A concerned resident who sighted the drunk Cop from her balcony raised the alarm, which led to his arrest.
A witness told our Correspondent that trouble started when a sex worker taunted the suspect who has now been relieved of his duties after the incident.
The witness who craved for anonymity, said Mr Osagie who strayed into the Brothel fortnight ago, had accused one of the women of easy virtue of stealing the sum of N500.000 (Five Hundred Naira) from his pocket.
He said: “a heated argument ensued between the sex worker and the drunk policeman who demanded for a refund of his money.
According to him, all entreaties to resolve the disagreement by the management of the Brothel failed.
“While we trying to settle the issue, suddenly the police brought out Ak-47 from no where and threatened to shoot everyone in sight. We ran away, some of the sex workers fled their hotel rooms naked in apprehension.
“The man started shouting and the residents in neighborhood woke up.
“After about 15 minutes, some armed policemen arrived and took his Ak-47 rifle from Osagie and arrested him.
“After they took him away, all the Ashawo (sex workers returned back to base. It was a brief relief to us”, he said
As at the time our Correspondent visited the scene, both the sex worker, and a Manager at the bar, feigned ignorance of the incident.
But, Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our Correspondent, said that the drunk policeman had been arrested.
“Yes, the incident happened. The case is under investigation to ascertain the state of the Officer and if culpable, proper punishment will be melted out on him”, he said while responding to inquiry by TheNewspad.com
A local musician who claimed to have witnessed the incident, commended the bravery of the policemen who arrested Mr Osagie.
