Edo 2020: History beckons on Obaseki as 2,229 PDP delegates decide


All is not set for the Peoples Democratic party primary election in Edo State Governorship election which has been scheduled for Thursday June 25, 2020 at the main bowl of Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City.

A total of two Thousand two Hundred and Twenty-nine delegates are set to decide the fate of Governor Godwin Obaseki who has been tipped to be the presumed winner of the contest ahead of the September 19, 2020 governorship election.

The coast is not clear for Obaseki to fly PDP ticket, haven ward-off potential threats from the three other contenders in PDP, Mr Gideon Ikhine, Mr Kenneth Imasuangbon and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama who had approached the court earlier to stop Governor Obaseki from seeking re-election on the platform of PDP, have stepped down for the Governor after intense horse-trading.

The three aspirants who had already been screened by the party,
withdrew from the race following the intervention of party leaders for the preferred aspirant, Mr Obaseki.

The national publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan on Wednesday told journalists that the materials for the election are already in Benin City as the members of the committee led by Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed.

Ologbondiyan also said that event which will hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium will follow the Covid-19 protocol.
