In a bid to check the surge in Covid- 19 (Coronavirus) cases and deaths, the United State Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard has commissioned Emergence Operation Centre (EOC) in Edo State.
She commissioned the Centre on Wednesday via virtual, with the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, leadership of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and John Hoskins programme for International education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO), United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural. organization (UNESCO), representative, the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Mr Osazee Ethan Uzamere, Chief of Staff to Edo State governor, and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) representative in attendance.
The upgraded Emergency operation Centre was funded by the United State Agency for International development (USAID) through John Hoskins programme for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO) as part of its contribution to help the State in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking during the Commissioning, the United State Ambassador, assured that the Centre will surely be of good benefits to the State and help in the fight against the Covid-19.
The Edo state Commissioner for Health, David Okundia who represented governor Godwin Obaseki, said the upgraded facility, data can now easily be analysed.
He commended the US Government for the support, adding that the Centre will not only serve for Covid-19 alone, but also for other related cases.
He also thanked the US government for this Centre, for the support Edo State Government has received and the Unites and the ambassador for her support towards the project.
On his part, Dr Folus Ejele, the USAID team leader in Edo State did a tour guide of the Centre via virtual..
He explained in details the facilities on ground and thanked USAID for the funding and Edo State Government for its cooperation.
Recall that the Emergency operation Centre (EOC) is where the coordination, follow up, tracking, data collation and details of Covid-19 is done in Edo State.
The Centre was upgraded for Edo State government and staff were also trained.
