The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

GOVERNOR GODWIN OBASEKI

He announced this after a brief meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

Speaking with journalists at the presidential villa, Obaseki said he would pursue his second-term bid on another platform.

The Jonathan Ayuba panel which was set up by APC National Working Committee led by Adams Oshiomhole, disqualified Obaseki over a “defective” certificate and two other aspirants, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and Mr Chris Ogiemwonyi.

TheNewspad had reported that Oshiomhole and Governor Obaseki who was first elected on the platform of APC, has being a running battle with his predecessor (Oshiomhole) over irreconcilable differences.

Our Correspondent reports, the University of Ibadan, UI, had since cleared Obaseki of certificate forgery.

The Registrar of the university, Olubunmi Faluyi, stated that Obaseki graduated from the institution with Second Class Honour, Lower Division.

Faluyi confirmed that Obaseki studied Classics between 1976 to 1979.

But, the national Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole who is believe to be backing Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, former Secretary to Edo State Government, had reacted to Governor Obaseki’s disqualification as normal.

He stated that his party cannot afford to field a Candidate with questionable documents to avert a another humiliating defeat after November 2019 APC won and lost the Governorship election in Bayelsa State to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in court over perjury.
