Edo 2020: APC tells aspirant to present affidavit for screening

Mr Chris Ogiemwonyi, aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo State has denied report of his disqualification by the screening Committee panel for the primaries.

He clarified that he was asked to swear to affidavit in court to correct the discrepancies in documents which he earlier submitted when he appeared before the panel on Friday June 12, 2020.

Mr Igbinigie Jeffrey, Director Media to Chris Ogiemwonyi Campaign Organization, stated this in a press release on Saturday.

Ogiemwonyi is due to re-appear before the screening panel on Saturday June 13, 2020 after the void created would have been corrected, according to the press release which was seen by our Correspondent.

Part of the press release titled, “APC screening Committee: Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi was not disqualified”, reads: “The discrepancies observed by the Panel in our Principal’s credentials had to do with his name which was written in full as Christopher Ogiemwonyi in one of the documents presented and simply abbreviated as Chris Ogiemwonyi in another document

“However, following interaction between our Principal and members of the Screening Committee earlier Friday, June 12, 2020, they ask him to swear an affidavit to show that he is one and same person. He wasn’t disqualified but not cleared yet.

“An affidavit had been sworn to that effect, authenticating that CHRISTOPHER OGIEMWONYI and CHRIS OGIEMWONYI is one and the same person.

“With this latest development, our Principal, Engr Chris Ogiemwonyi is expected to reappear before the APC appeal committee on Saturday, June 13, 2020”, he said.

The Campaign organization, thanked supporters of the aspirant, members of the Ogiemwonyi political family, friends and well-wisher across the political spectrum for their support and the solidarity shown to our Principal, arising from this said setback by the APC screening Committee.

“We therefore urged all to remain calm while we await the final outcome of the screening exercise.

“We are confident that our Principal, Engr Chris Ogiemwonyi who has built his life and career in public service on the basis and principles of INTEGRITY, will come out successfully at the end of the whole screening exercise”, he said.

It is not clear as at the time of filing this report if the aspirant has fulfilled the requirements of the panel in order to validate his eligibility to contest the primary election.

Meanwhile, appeal’s panel has upheld the disqualification of three Edo State Governorship aspirants including incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.
