Delta State Government has promised to assist traders who lost their stock and means of livelihood at the popular Ogbe-Ogonogo market in Asaba, which was gutted by fire on Tuesday morning.
The State governor, Mr Ifeanyi Okowa made the pledge when he paid on-the-spot assessment visit to a section of the burnt market.
He commended the efforts of the State Fire Service for putting out the fire, assuring that the cause of the fire will be investigated.
He thereafter asked the traders to organise themselves and come out with statistics that would enable the State Government identify those who may need assistance.
According to him, “The cause of the fire is not yet known. We are still asking questions. However, we will find a way to provide some level of assistance for those who have been impacted badly by the reason of the fire this morning”.
TheNewspad reports that stock worth millions of Naira was said to have been consumed by the inferno which cause is yet to be established.
Many shop owners tried to salvage their stock from the blaze, which spread further before the State Fire service arrived he scene and tried to put out the fire.
Some of the traders who incurred wept uncontrollably and lamented their helplessly while attempting to out out the fire which has already been out out.
