Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi has described criticisms against his Government on social media by some youths in the northern part of Nigeria as an invitation to anarchy.
The comment followed the outrage that greeted the return of Almajiris by Ebonyi State Government and some northern Governors in the nation which was aimed at enforcing restrictions in inter-state movement to curb the spread of novel Coronavirus.
The Governor disclosed this during the security Council meeting at the Government house on Wednesday in Abakaliki, the State Capital.
He insisted that any Almajiri found in the State would be sent back to his State of origin.
“And the northern Governors, I commend them. They say, go to their States of origin. So, why will the youths that want us to fight take to the social media to start saying that Almajiris are coming to south eastern Nigeria? And that they should be allowed. Is this part of the social distancing? Ebonyi State will not allow Almajiris. They should go to their State of origin”.
He also commended some northern Governors for their decision to repatriate Almajiri to their States of origin and President Muhammadu Buhari for the steps taken to curb the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
“Nobody believe that we have 13 cases of Covid-19 as at today (Wednesday). And I want to say that unless the people of Nigeria advice themselves, we have not seen anything yet. It is not a time to blame the Government. Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari has done his best. The Governors have done their best in curbing Covid-19. It needs personal sacrifices from everybody for the sake of our own lives.
“So, it is not a question of blaming Government. Government can do nothing without the people. Let us observe the policy of using nose mask, washing our hands, and reduce going out. We will not be afraid to say no Almajiri in Ebonyi State before now”, he said.
At a briefing on the latest of Covid-19 cases, Governor Umahi announced that a 3-year-old Child who tested positive for Coronavirus earlier, is now negative.
