Protest as Edo Council boss distributes relief materials with ‘cash transfer list’

The decision by the Chairman of Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr Ogedengbe Odia to use the federal Government conditional cash list for the distribution of food and other relief materials to residents in the Council has been greeted with protest.

A TRUCK LOAD OF FOOD BEING OFF-LOADED

The State government began the distribution of relief materials from the Government to cushion economic hardship of the restriction imposed by the government on the restriction imposed to stop the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ogedengbe who also denied allegation of diversion of the truck load with foodstuffs and noodles in which Leftist Osazee Edigin, spokesman of Edo Civil Society Organizations, alleged via his Facebook page on Monday afternoon, alleged that the items had a shortfall of the items from the point of take-off to the point of delivery, according to check that was carried out by a member of the association who was detailed to monitor the exercise in the locality.

TheNewspad reports that governor Godwin Obaseki in his Easter address had said the relief items would be distributed to the elderly, widows, the physically challenged and the homeless, among others.

He said the exercise will be conducted in collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders and community partners.
