Policemen who lost riffles to bandits in Delta hospitalised

Three injured police personnel who lost their riffles to suspected bandits at the weekend in Asaba, Delta State have been hospitalised.

Spokesman for the Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya disclosed this during an exclusive interview with TheNewspad on Thursday.

The incident which involved officers from ‘C’ Division, occurred at the popular Abraka Market area, opposite Sandi Gold Hotel, Abraka, Asaba in Delta State Capital.

The officers who were caught off guard while attempting to extort a motorist during a ‘stop and search’ when they lost two rifles to the fleeing hoodlums.

The Police Image maker, said disciplinary procedure against the injured Cops when they are certified medically fit.

According to her, “you are aware that they were injured and that they are in hospital.

“They have been admitted and after that, the next thing will continue. For now, we are doing intelligence gathering”, DSP Onovwakpoyeya said.

Recall that the Commissioner of police in Delta State, Mr Hafiz Inuwa had in a previous interview with newsmen said security operatives have launched manhunt for the hoodlums that snatched three riffles.

“I gathered that this is not the first time the incident happened in the State before my arrival.

“But this is the first time since I took over as Commissioner of Police. With the power of God and the strategy and intelligence we have, it will not occur again.

“Within 8 days of my arrival, I have recovered over ten fire arms hoodlums used to commit crimes in the State. We are on the trail of the hoodlums and anybody caught will be seriously delt with,” Hafiz said.

TheNewspad reports that snatching of police by hoodlums at checkpoint points have become a source of worry to police authorities and Nigerians in the State.
