Man hacks wife to death in Ogun


37-year-old man, Mutiu Sonola has reportedly hacked his wife, Zainab Shotayo to death over a minor disagreement between them on Christmas day.


The suspect was arrested by police operatives on December 25, following a report by the father of the deceased at the Ibara Division in the State.

Spokesman for the Nigeria police, Ogun State Command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Thursday that father of the 34-year-old daughter got a telephone call that her son-in-law has killed his daughter.

Oyeyemi in a statement said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ibara Division, SP Dada Olusegun, mobilised his detectives and went after the suspect who had bolted away after the tragedy immediately doctor certified her dead at General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, the State Capital.

“He (the suspect) was eventually located and he was promptly arrested.

“Preliminary investigation reveal that the Mutiu was fond of beating his wife Zainab at the slightest provocation, with the fatal domestic violence incident of Christmas said to be as a result of a minor disagreement”.

Oyeyemi, said that Zainab’s corpse has since been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital for autopsy.

He also said the Commissioner of Police in the State, Kenneth Ebrimson, has “ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution”.
