I left PDP over lack of direction, says former Rep, Momoh

A former House of Representatives member, representing Etsako Federal Constituency in Edo State, Hon Abubakar Momoh has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Citing anomie and lack of direction in the main opposition party – PDP in the 2019 general elections in Edo Senatorial district, but lost to Second term Lawmaker, Hon. Francis Alimikhena, said his decision was influenced by his supporters.

The two term lawmaker’s declaration was contained in his letter of resignation which was addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 9, Etsako East to formally announce his disengagement from PDP.

Describing the decision as a painful feeling, but irreversible, Momoh said he had been under intense pressure from diverse groups, significant Community leaders of thought, political associates and many of his teeming followers, who insisted on some form of realignment of forces with his former party, APC.

TheNewspad reports that Hon Momoh’s defection is largely seen as a huge political set back to PDP in Edo North, which use to be its main leading light.

Recalling how he lost the 2019 general elections, the former lawmaker, described his defection as a great loss to a party, adding that the PDP was still trying to find its feet in Edo State since the party was founded over 20 years ago.

According to him, the 2019 general elections has been in a state of anomie and lack of direction, stating further that such a state of things cannot in any way keep or retain a serious Stakeholder like him.

Our Correspondent reports that cautious that his defection would attract mixed reactions across the entire senatorial district, Hon Momoh was, however, optimistic that in the not too distant future, many would come around to applaud his decision.

“Having suffered so much in the hands of the party leadership, I have no more reason to tarry a little bit because doing so would be tantamount to drowning his political boat in the ocean of a political party that no longer has the zeal to win elections in Edo State.

He however appreciated the leadership and members of PDP for giving him the platform to aspire for political position in the past.
