PDP raises concern over ‘intolerance’ in Edo APC

Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern over what it termed high level of ‘intolerance’ among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where the views of agitators are shutdown with talk of threats and insurrection.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Chris Nehikhare made this known on Wednesday in a statement in Benin City.

He cautioned the ruling APC in the statement to stop heating up polity in the State among actors in crisis rocking the party in the State.

According to him, APC “intolerance has led to the non-representation of up to 14 constituencies in the state house of assembly since its proclamation, the attacks and maiming on their own members in Owan, Estako Central and Ovia North-East local government areas in Edo state.

“They (APC) are now upping the ante by boasting and accusing each other of importing thugs from Kogi State. We are all aware of the antecedents of Kogi APC thugs.

The PPD therefore call on the police and other security agencies to be  at alert as the built up tensions to the 2020 governorship election in the State by the disgruntled factions in Edo APC…”.

In a veiled reference to the feign knowledge of Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki the formal defection of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Friday December 13, 2019 in the State, Mr Nehikhare condemned the grandstanding of the various factions of the APC in regards to the rally.

Part of the statement reads: “Edo state which hitherto was a peaceful and tolerant state is being threatened to be turned to “Kabul”… the capital of war torn Afghanistan!

“In the last 24 to 48 hours, Edo people have been inundated with threats and counter threats from the at least three factions that exists in a party that is known for its intolerance and propensity for violence maiming, and arson.

“We advice that a proper and effective security arrangement is put in place to checkmate these “tatatata political” fits”, he said.

Nehikhare assured however that there will be light at the end of the tunnel and urged residents of the to remain peaceful and focused.
