Highway robbers have unleash terror on travellers along the Lokoja-Abuja Federal Highway on Sunday evening, killing and maiming unidentified passengers and commuters.

A dependable source who was at the scene of the incident said the armed robbers blocked the highway with stones and other dangerous objects to prevent the motorists from escaping from the trap.

However, when some motorists travelling on the highway got to the scene, they could not escape as the bandits opened fire on the passengers.

“Some of them died and others sustained different degrees of injuries. Many others unaccounted for”, the source told TheNewspad.

The incident which took place after Gadder beau, before Kweita, a Community on Lokoja-Abuja Federal Highway.

A witness said a team of military men, however, ran into the accident and helped to convey the corpses to the hospital.

The witness however could not immediately ascertain the actual number of people feared dead, and efforts to reach the Police and Road safety the number of casualties has been difficult.

The Police Public Relation Officer of Kogi State Police Command, William Ayah was not readily available to speak on the incident, but, a top Police officer who is not authorised to speak on the matter hinted that the Police Commissioner, CP Hakeem Busari has drafted some armed policemen and detective to the area.
