Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO’s) have reported last Friday attacks to Amnesty International and Global Human Rights.

Leftist Omobude Agho, the Coordinator General of the group, said the EDOCSO’s the National Human Rights Commission Watch and other partners of the body have equally been briefed about how they were their allegedly attacked by hoodlums for rejecting privatisation policy of the State government healthcare.
He said this at a press Conference to protest the privatisation of the Health sector by the State Government on Saturday in Benin City shortly before members of the group were allegedly attacked by hoodlums acting on the behest of the State Government during a peaceful protest on Saturday.

Omobude accused Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki of shrinking the democratic space of human rights, thereby putting “the lives of activists under serious threats”.

“The use of Thugs and political urchins by Edo State Government to attack us and unleash mayhem on members of Edo Civil Society Organizations during a peaceful protest, is highly condemnable. It amounts to human rights abuse by a seemingly democratic Government, except we are made to believe otherwise”, he said.
