The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Monday directed all commissioners of police and their supervisory assistant inspectors-general of police in the state and zonal Commands to beef up security nationwide.

The measure, according to him, was to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free 59th independence anniversary celebration on Tuesday.

Adamu, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, by the force spokesman, Frank Mba, assured Nigerians of a smooth celebration in all the states and the Federal Capital Territory.
