NSCDC goes offensive over kidnapped personnel

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Edo State Command, has entered the forest in search of two abducted colleagues who were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

The men were deployed into the forests in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State where two of its officers who were kidnapped on Friday while on their way to Benin.

The victims were identified as Francis Okunwe, who is the area Commander of the Edo North Area Command and an assistant corps of the NSCDC; and the Divisional Officer of Irrua, Chief Superintendent of Corps,  Albert Eguavoen.

Spokesman for the NSCDC, Edo State, Mr Efosa Ogbebor, described the incident as “unfortunate situation but we have deployed our men to comb the forest and ensure that two of them are released unhurt”.

 Edo State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, confirmed the incident and said a combined operation of security agencies in the state was being put in place to apprehend the abductors.

As of the time of filing this report, no one could confirm if the kidnappers had contacted the family of the victims.
