The the tragedy which struck during the Ito Ofe annual festival in Naze Community in Owerri North Local Government Area of the State, has thrown the Community into mourning.

Emeziem was have gone into a in a state of frenzy after taken a liquor and began to fire gunshots into the air at the party.

The victim was however hit by a stray bullet that killed the guest immediately, bringing the party to an abrupt end, The Sun Newspaper reports.

The party was in honour of a Nigerian based in the United States-based police who was conferred a chieftaincy title by his kinsmen.

According to the source, another guest who was also injured during the ill-fated incident, regained consciousness at undisclosed hospital in the State.

“The Celebrant bought eight cows for the eight villages in our Community in appreciation for the reputed chieftaincy title.

“The retired officer was shooting in the air, celebrating the Chieftaincy title before the tragedy struck,” the source said.
