Jail break: Police confirm relocation of prisoners who killed 3 Cops, kidnap Ehanire

The measure was in response to a foiled jail break at the detention facility by hoodlums who attempted to secure the release of some inmates

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Danmallam Mohammed on Friday said the some prisoners in Oko Medium prison in Benin have been relocated to a detention facility outside the State.

The measure was in response to a foiled jail break at the detention facility by hoodlums who attempted to secure the release of some inmates held in connection with the foiled jail break which occurred on July 26, 2019.

THE 3-MAN SYNDICATE, AMOS ISUKU (35), OHENEME KINGSLEY (40), RAPHAEL EBISIN (40) ARRESTED IN CONNNECTION WITH FOILED JAIL BREAK AT OKO PRISON IN BENIN BEING PARADED BY EDO STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, MR DANMALLAM MOHAMMED

The suspects are, Amos Isuku (35), Oheneme Kingsley (40), Raphael Ebisin (40) were responsible for the attack and killing of for three policemen in the line of duty before abducting the Managing Director of Ogba Zoological Gardens in Benin, Mr Andy Ehanire who is a sibling to a Minister designate on September 24, 2017.

The Commissioner said this while parading the three suspects arrested by the State Command at the police headquarters on Friday in Benin City.

THE PRIME SUSPECT

He disclosed that the suspects were arrested, following the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT that some hoodlums had concluded plans to storm and break Oko prison.

He said: “The intention of the hoodlums was to use dynamites and improvised explosive devices, IED, to blow up the facility with a view to liberate some of their gang members detained since December 2017 for kidnapping, murder, and other sundry crimes.

According to him, “One long gun and an Infinix phone was recovered from the suspects while one Nokia 3300 and FERO Android phone with MTN number 0810-104-1817 and 0816-874-420 respectively were recovered from Prison Officers”.me, The leader of the 3-man gang, Amos Isuku, 35-year-old, alleged that he was contacted to by one Ohonleme Wisdom who was his former neighbour at Ihievbe in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

He said, Wisdom called him from the prison and told me that his appeal has failed in the lower court and that he needs money to continue the case at a higher court. I told him that I do not have money presently.

After “our conversation with Wisdom (in the prison) whom he claimed had been dismissed from police Force years, he requested for my Account number and I agreed with him and sent my account number to a certain man who told me that he can get access to Wisdom in the prison which was unknown to me.

They said they want to use the money to buy petrol….When he told me that he wants to go and break the prison, I now told him, how possible can that be? He asked me if I have tools (guns), I replied him No!

But, Amos Isuku (35), said: “I am 35-year-old, I was arrested by the police because of the phone call that I received.

“They (police) said, the mobile phone one Mr Hope (now at large) used doing kidnapping was found with me. That is why they (police) and Hope has ran away.

“I was not involved in the kidnapping. But, Hope told me to come and meet him at Ijebu-Ode in Ondo State to assist him to drive a vehicle. When I enquired what the issue was about, he did not open up to me, but, he insisted that I should come and meet him.

“I did not honour Hope’s invitation, but, I was later arrested by the police in Lagos State”, he said.

He explained further that he was not aware that the fugitive, Hope was was a gunrunner.

On his part, Raphael Ebisin, 40-year-old suspect, said he does not know Hope.

“The General Hope that they are talking about, I do not know him. I haven’t seen met him before.

Also speaking, 40-year-old, Ohonleme Kingsley, said he was arrested while attempting to rescue his brother who was held in Oko prison.

“My brother (Widsom) had been condemned to death. He said people want to break prison and that the sum of N200, 000 was needed for the operation.

“My younger brother (Wisdom) told me to assist him with the money to him by proxy in order for him to be set free along with other inmates from the prison.

“But, I could not met up with the demand, so I sent the sum of N20, 000 to him through someone.

“After sending the money, I do not know how police came to my residence at about 1:30am they (police) came to my house and arrested me”, he said.
