Court remands Atiku’s son-in-law, lawyer for money laundering

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s son-in-law, Abdullahi Babalele and his lawyer, Uyiekpen Osagie-Giwa for alleged money laundering offences.

Atiku contested against President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo who handed down the ruling, adjourned till Thursday to take their bail applications.

The judge ordered that they be returned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC custody, pending hearing of their bail applications on Thursday.

EFCC arraigned Abdullahi Babalele for allegedly laundering $140,000 during the general elections while Atiku’s lawyer, Uyiekpen Osagie-Giwa, is standing trial for allegedly laundering $2million.

The defendants however pleaded not guilty before Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

There was heavy security presence in court on Wednesday.
